Raising animals is essential here at our farm, both for food AND for soil fertility.  We use the bedding from our small flock of laying hens to add to our compost pile.  We also raise, process and package whole broiler chickens. These chickens are a standard broiler type breed and are pastured on the property in mobile chicken tractors that are moved daily, providing them with fresh grass. The pasture these chickens fertilize is incorporated into the soil the following year to be used for vegetables or other crops.

We raise a few hundred of these birds every year and process them on the farm in smaller, staggered batches throughout the summer. Nothing goes to waste!  Even their feathers are added to the compost pile. Meat chickens will be available 3 times during the summer: end of June, July and August.  All of our chickens are fed certified, non-gmo grain from Green Mountain Feeds, raised here in Vermont.  Our gmo-free eggs are available at our farmstand or though our CSA.

If you are interested in pre-ordering meat chickens this summer, please fill out the following form and let us know how many you would like. We offer a free chicken with your purchase of 10, so you would get 11 for the price of 10! The price is $4.25 per pound and the birds usually weigh around 4 – 6 pounds.  Please order by July 15th as supplies are limited. We also ask for a $50 deposit on any orders of 10 or more.  Please send deposit checks to: Wilder Farm, 129 Simpson Drive, Lyndonville, VT 05851.
